The Avanti Club: “Sealife – Still Life”

01/05/2015

On Monday 30th March at the Avanti Club service users and volunteers enjoyed an artistic evening with the theme of “Sealife – Still Life”.

A regular supporter and service user of the group, Belinda, led the evening and provided various still-life objects such as stones, shells and vegetation placed in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement for group members to sketch and paint.

Watercolours and charcoal materials were provided to inspire everyone and Belinda provided 1 to 1 tuition to support individuals and made reference to examples in art books and photographs.

The evening was well attended and a group from a local residential centre brought their own unique and creative ideas to the occasion or activities. Some of the group came up with some interesting, colourful fabric/textile designs using vegetation as a starting point. Several objects were placed in glass jugs and containers filled with water to challenge the way we see objects when submerged in water.

The club meets every Monday, 6-8pm at the New Horizons Centre in Pollards Hill and we welcome new people who would enjoy the opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. Every Monday evening the Avanti Group has a distinct theme focusing on Mind, Body, Soul and Connect.

The Avanti Club will be closed on Monday 4th May for the bank holiday but back open again on Monday 11th May.
