It has been a busy few weeks and I’ve now been in post for almost two months – the time is flying by! I am thoroughly enjoying life at Healthwatch Merton and am feeling very much part of the MVSC family.
Over the past month I have been meeting with organisations to discuss ways in which Healthwatch Merton can work in partnership and be part of the local community. Recently I attended the Wimbledon District Nursing and Midwifery Benevolent Society AGM which was a great way to network and find out about the amazing work that groups are doing in the borough.
Last week I met with St Raphael’s Hospice and we discussed ways in which we can work together to raise awareness of end of life care, and gather the views of people to find out what matters to them.
Wednesday 20 May saw our Feedback and the Future 2015 event which was attended by 35 people. The event was to share information and to announce our work streams for 2015/16 – we also heard presentations from Healthwatch England and Merton Clinical Commissioning Group. Over the last 12 months Healthwatch Merton has been busy gathering people’s views on health and social care in the borough – a survey was also conducted and completed by 314 local people. Healthwatch Merton were told by local people that they wanted us to develop work in two areas - Older People and A&E / Urgent Care. We will be undertaking more directed and detailed work around these areas and hope to engage with you and many more people during the coming months. In addition to this, we have our Operational and Top Down work streams which are Children and Young People, and Integrated Care.
As well as these work streams, we will still be speaking to people to find out about what else matters to them when it comes to their health and social care – we have a busy and exciting 12 months ahead!
